Frequently Asked Questions | General

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

I'm based out of Huntington Beach California, but YES I travel all over California and beyond! Travel fees do apply to locations outside of Los Angeles and Orange County.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?

The Experience package is required to be booked 2 months in advance in order to style and create all the pieces needed for your session. For smaller packages I often book 1-3 months in advance, but do my best to accommodate immediate needs. Please feel free to contact me for availability.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY HORSE?

I encourage my riders to do whatever show preparation you would typically do on your horse for a big competition; groomed, clipped, hoof polish etc. Avoid excessive oil and show sheen so the oil won't get on your clothes while cuddling your horse and you don't fall off if we do try to get on bareback! Tack is completely a preference, but I always encourage a clean bridle or leather halter!

I DON'T THINK MY BARN IS PRETTY.

About 90% of my Horse + Rider shoots are located where the horse is boarded as it is where they are most comfortable. You'd be surprised what beauty I can find at a barn or even on the nearby trails. However, I do have some great spots all over Orange County and Los Angeles to haul into, should you be worried about the backdrop.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

I know the struggle, TRUST ME! Its important to keep things like the weather, personal features, and your horse's color in mind when choosing your outfits. More then anything, choose clothes that reflect your own personal style and that you are comfortable in. I can tell when you're in a dress that you're not used to wearing! If you're really struggling feel free to each out to me at anytime with pieces you have in mind!

CAN I STILL GET BLACK BACKGROUNDS DONE IF I BOOK A SMALLER PACKAGE?

Absolutely! Black Backgrounds are only $125 per horse when booked alongside ANY Horse + Rider session (saving you an extra $25). We will shoot your horse's portrait session before we start your Horse + Rider session.

Frequently Asked Questions | Black Backgrounds

WHATS REQUIRED

BBG sessions are a stress-free and painless setup. I shoot completely with natural light, so there is no extra light stands or props. All the magic happens in photoshop! The only requirement is a barn aisle, preferably one that can be closed off, or a fully covered area such as a covered arena.

Extra hands are always EXTREMELY helpful, but not required.

I suggest to use the bridle that the horse usually goes in, snaffles are always the best! But all bits work perfectly as well. Before the session starts, have the reins removed and a lead rope attached to the bit unless it is a western shank bit, in this case having leather split reins is recommended!

Other options are with a halter or "liberty." When it comes to halters, simple leather halters are recommended and I would advise avoiding nylon or rope halters. When it comes to "liberty" or free of tack shots we will tie a lead rope around the horse's neck for safety! This will be taken out later.

HOW TO PREPARE

The amount of preparation is completely up to you but the cleaner the horse the better the images! A lot of editing goes into making these images so most cuts and blemishes can be taken out, but I cannot make a dirty horse look clean. I advise doing any  "show preparation" in which you would normally do; clipped ears, muzzles, and hoof polish can really make all the difference!

The same goes with halters and bridles as well! Clean tack makes the world of difference!

The floor will be in the shot, so a clean and swept area is recommended

Can you photograph my horses together?

Contrary to popular belief, images of horses and dogs together are actually shot seperately and photoshopped together. Horses/ dogs are required to have a full session booked for compilation photos, but I always throw in 1 images of 2 horses FREE! Have more you want in a photo? Inquire when booking for prices!

DOGS?

YES! I would LOVE to shoot your dog as well! Set up and the package is exactly the same. They also count towards receiving barn discounts!

MARE AND FOAL?

We can most definitely shoot your mare and foal together! They will still count as two horses as they will be edited together and "shot separately" in my camera to ensure the best features of the horses are captured!
