Deirde was set to be elected Orange County Bar Association’s 2019 President and the OC Lawyer Magazine wanted to do a deeper dive on Deirdre life, obmiouly Patrick is a huge part of it! Because of the deadline for the article we had to battle the mud and inability to get poor Patrick out of his stall, so I’m really thankful we were shooting at my home barn! All is good! We shared A TON OF LAUGHS, got some great photos, and made the deadline for the magazine!
My favorite little model child Emma got to grace my camera again with her new buddy Captain! Emma was one of those girls that really helped kick start my business moving to Orange County after I photographed her and her favorite lesson horse Cruiser.
Cruiser was retired this last year and poor Miss Emma was devastated! Luckily her amazing trainer Kara brought a new American Mustang, Captain, into the program and just like that: Emma had a new best friend!
October 15th 2016 I decided to rebrand and revamp my business and started offering mini sessions for just $50 dollars.
October 27th 2017 I left my job, October 28th I sold my horse, and October 29th I moved down to Huntington Beach to start my journey as a full time photographer
Here we are October 30th 2018 to mark 1 year of being a full time photographer. It has been the hardest and most rewarding year of my life. My heart is so full and I am ever so grateful to everyone that has believed in me and allowed me to pursue my biggest goals and biggest dreams.
Its that time of year where horse’s turn into fluff balls and Christmas Card photos need to be captured! I don’t know about you but it is a PRIORITY to include my horses in the holiday festivities! I offer Black Background Christmas Mini sessions every year and with dates being released TODAY! I thought I’d share my FAVORITES from last year!
Crazy to see how much my work has changed in 1 years time!
Lauren switched barns to start riding with Hillary Ridland at Blenheim EquiSports International which is where she met her sweet boy Darco. I sometimes feel like I did an injustice to just how cute Darco’s face is! He has the sweetest personality which matches so well with Lauren!
Its always so nice when you get a fellow artist as a client! Lauren photographs for fun and already knows how to OWN IT in front of a camera! By the end of our session, I was like, “Girl, just go do all the model things!"
Leanna inquiring about her session had me rolling because she was in Vegas with her daughter who just turned 21 and couldn’t make me any promises that she wouldn't get stuck on a roof somewhere just like the Hangover!
A month later I got to go out to her barn in Canby for my Oregon trip to meet Conrad! Her beautiful bay Thoroughbred that literally has the nickname “Handsome.” Leanna describing his personality was pretty spot on!
It was extremely hard for me to wait to publish this blog because Janell did this session as a Christmas present for her husband (she jokes that he loves Jetta more then her!).
Janell rescued Jetta years ago when she was an exercise jockey and a handful of race horses were disowned. Skin and bones she was one of few that survived the situation, Janell has seriously turned this horse around and I honestly wanted to call her a miracle worker!
So I came to this session already SOLD that it was going to be one for the books. A lot had to do with the fact that I knew Brianna was going to be my kinda girl!
Brianna and her mom volunteered at the rescue where they adopted her boy King from 5 years ago after he was started none other than Kim at Forhman Performance horses, who I ride for today! Talk about coming full circle! They're now nestled in one of the many beautiful homes in Orange Park Acres! I love coming back to OPA (not only cause I go lottery house shopping in my head) because most of the houses sit behind a mountain which makes for the perfect sunsets!
The goal was to capture cantering at dusk as if it was a beautiful autumn day without a care in the world. Instead, it was hot and humid like most summer days here in Huntington Beach, we had an adventure to get Ashley on Hook while up at Urban Forrest because “mom that’s not my good side”, and we were sweaty, dirty, and ready for a margarita after.
When fellow businesswoman ask who my ideal clients are, I say they are girls who work for everything they have in the horse world. Every show they enter, every piece of tack they have, and every extra bag of grain they put in the car it’s because they have such a love for their horse that they’ll put in the extra hard work to make it happen.
Who else has gone through the awkward conversation of a family member saying “hey this person has horses too, you guys should be friends!”
In this situation, I’m thankful for my aunt making Rebecca and I have that conversation nearly 10 years ago! Years later we reconnected, decided to trailer to Vegas together, and run at Buckles and Barrel for Bayley with our unprepared youngins!
Thank you for being my person. Thank you for being the person who (literally) pushes me to go after my dreams. Thank you for spending hours researching ways to make my business better. Thank you for holding me when I randomly start crying about selling Sawyer. Thank you for still saying I’m beautiful when I’ve been editing for three days straight and look like a loch ness monster. Thank you for forcing me to go on walks so I get out of the house. Thank you for waking me up and putting me to bed when I fall asleep in my office chair. Thank you for believing in me, encouraging me, inspiring me, and loving me every day.
This year with me diving head first into this entrepreneurial journey, I decided to dive head-on into a marketing and branding course for photographers. Part of the process is for us to assess our businesses and help brand and define the work that we created using three words. My words took me a while to figure out, my two favorite services are so completely different besides the fact that they have pretty ponies in them!
